About Flash FLV

Flash FLV stands for Flash Video Files. Flash Video is the name of a file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player (initially produced by Macromedia). FLV format has a decent quality-to-file size ratio. The most recent public release of Flash Player supports H.264 video and HE-AAC audio. Flash Video content may also be embedded within SWF files.

Because of restrictions in the .flv format, Adobe Systems has created new file formats, Flash player does not check the extension of the file, but rather looks inside the file to detect which format it is, these new file formats is .f4v (video/mp4, Video for Adobe Flash Player), .f4p (video/mp4, Protected Video for Adobe Flash Player), .f4a (audio/mp4, Audio for Adobe Flash Player), .f4b (audio/mp4, Audio Book for Adobe Flash Player).

About MPEG and MPEG4

MPEG stands for Moving Pictures Expert Group. MPEG has standardized the following compression formats and ancillary standards: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-3, MPEG-4, MPEG-7, and MPEG-21. The official filename extension for MPEG-4 Part 14 files is .mp4, thus the container format is often referred to simply as MP4. The common but non-standard use of the extensions .m4a and .m4v is due to the popularity of Apple¡¯s iPod, iPhone, and iTunes Store, and Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Zune.

MPEG4 was aimed primarily at low bit-rate video communications; however, its scope was later expanded to be much more of a multimedia coding standard. MPEG-4 is efficient across a variety of bit-rates ranging from a few kilobits per second to tens of megabits per second.
